Summary

Picture a pizza shop near a stadium that sees a game trend on Google the evening before kickoff. By the next afternoon, it is gone from the list. That is the norm. Of 725 completed runs in Google's daily US top 25 searches, 700 lasted a single day.

We followed every term in 32 consecutive daily lists for the US and 42 other countries and measured how many days in a row each one stayed on. The median is one day for every list type. Searches in the top 25 rising list last a bit longer, with 42.2% of US runs lasting two days.

Demand from trending searches is real, but the window to catch it is a day or two, not weeks.

What we measured

Each daily refresh of the public Google Trends tables stores only that day's top 25 terms per area, together with five years of weekly scores for those 25 terms. The tables keep about 32 to 49 recent refreshes, so the list history available covers September 19 to October 20, 2026 (32 daily lists), plus a few partial earlier snapshots for some countries.

We stacked the 32 daily lists for each area and list type and grouped each term's appearances into runs of consecutive daily lists. Runs that start on the first available day or end on the last are cut off by the window, so we exclude them from the duration figures (they are 50 of 775 US top runs). We also grouped US terms with simple keyword rules into game matchups (terms with 'vs'), weather and other.

The top 25 lists turn over almost completely each day. The rising lists keep about two in five terms for a second day, which suggests rising interest often spans the day before and the day of an event.

In the rising list, more than half of matchup runs lasted two days, which fits interest building the day before a game and peaking on game day. Recurring weekly terms like 'monday night football' (6 days) came back on separate days rather than staying on.

What this means

If you want to catch trending demand, plan for a one or two day window. Content has to be live before or on the day of the event. A post published three days later arrives after the list has moved on.

Build pages for recurring moments in advance and refresh them each time, because weekly events return on schedule. Limits

Only 32 days of daily lists exist in the dataset, so runs longer than the window cannot be measured and seasonal patterns cannot be compared.

Runs touching the first or last day are excluded as incomplete.

Lists show only the top 25 terms per day. A term can stay popular after it drops off the list.

Term types use simple keyword rules and are approximate.

The window falls in the US football season, which affects the term mix.
