10 Generative Engine Optimization Tools, From Tracking to Action

Generative engine optimization tools track how AI models such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity use your content, and the better ones help you change it. Writesonic and Gauge generate content from visibility gaps, Scrunch serves an AI-ready version of your site, Goodie recommends and runs actions, and Profound, Peec AI and AthenaHQ focus on measurement. The right GEO tool is the one that closes the gap between seeing a problem and fixing it.

Why action matters more in GEO

Generative engine optimization is the practice of shaping your content so AI models pick it up, summarize it accurately and cite it. Tracking tells you the score. It does not change it.

What changes the score is work on your site and content: clear answers near the top of pages, structured data, AI crawler access, consistent facts about your business across the web and coverage of the questions you are missing. That is why this list is ordered by how much of that work each tool takes on. If you are still deciding whether GEO replaces SEO, our GEO vs SEO comparison explains how they overlap.

1. Writesonic

What it does: Writesonic pairs an AI writer with AI search tracking. Plans track prompts daily on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Growth adds sentiment analysis, prompt diversification, AI search volume and a trial of the Action Center with 5 off-page and 5 on-page actions a month.

Who it's for: Content marketers who want to turn tracking gaps into drafts in the same tool.

Price: Starter is $79 per month billed annually for 50 prompts. Growth is $399 per month.

Honest limitation: The Action Center is a trial on Growth and full only on Enterprise, so the cheaper plans are mostly tracking plus a writer.

2. Gauge

What it does: Gauge's content engine writes and publishes articles aimed at visibility gaps it finds in daily prompt runs. Growth includes 18 articles a month, an analysis agent called Ask Gauge, and publishing to Webflow, Framer, Sanity or GitHub.

Who it's for: Lean teams on those platforms that want a steady stream of GEO-aimed content.

Price: Growth is $599 per month for 600 prompts run daily across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot.

Honest limitation: Auto-generated articles still need fact-checking and editing. Publishing thin AI drafts at volume can hurt trust with readers and search engines.

3. Scrunch

What it does: Alongside citation and agent traffic tracking, Scrunch's Agent Experience Platform (AXP) creates an AI-friendly version of your site for AI agents and crawlers.

Who it's for: Brands with complex, script-heavy sites that AI crawlers may struggle to read.

Price: Starter is $300 a month month-to-month or $250 a month billed annually, with 350 custom prompts and a 7-day trial with no card.

Honest limitation: A parallel AI version does not improve the pages people and Google see. You may still need to fix the source pages. Our Scrunch AI review covers the trade-off.

4. Goodie

What it does: Goodie researches the questions customers ask, tracks mentions daily, analyzes AI crawler activity on your site and recommends or carries out content updates, technical fixes and outreach. It also attributes traffic and revenue to AI search.

Who it's for: Mid-market brands that want a platform that pushes past dashboards.

Price: Core is $295 per month for 110 prompts, with a 7-day free trial.

Honest limitation: The action layer depends on your plan and your team's capacity to approve changes. Gemini is not on Core.

5. Rankscale

What it does: Rankscale combines credit-based answer tracking with page audits, which help you see what to change on a given URL. Paid plans from Pro list nine engines including DeepSeek and Mistral.

Who it's for: SEOs who like to diagnose pages themselves.

Price: Essentials is $17 per month, yearly only. Pro is $99 per month with 50 page audits and a 7-day trial.

Honest limitation: Audits tell you what to change. You or your developer still make the changes.

6. AthenaHQ

What it does: AthenaHQ measures visibility across up to 11 models on its Starter plan, with unlimited topics and prompts metered by credits. API access is an add-on.

Who it's for: Data-minded teams that want broad model coverage to decide where GEO effort should go.

Price: Free Essential tier with 300 credits. Starter is $295 per month with 3,600 credits.

Honest limitation: It is primarily a measurement tool on these plans. Expect to do the optimization work elsewhere. More in our AthenaHQ review.

7. Peec AI

What it does: Peec AI tracks your visibility in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, benchmarks competitors and shows which sources AI answers cite. The source view is useful for GEO because it points to the sites you need to be on.

Who it's for: Marketing teams and agencies planning content and PR around cited sources.

Price: Plan prices did not display on Peec's pricing page when we checked. Enterprise is custom and annual.

Honest limitation: It reports where to act but does not change content for you.

8. Profound

What it does: Profound monitors answers across up to nine engines on Enterprise, with daily prompt runs.

Who it's for: Enterprise GEO programs with in-house content and dev teams.

Price: Free trial of 50 prompts for 7 days, then custom Enterprise pricing.

Honest limitation: You need your own team to turn its data into page changes, and pricing is only available through sales.

9. Ahrefs Brand Radar

What it does: Brand Radar tracks your brand across AI answers, YouTube and Reddit. For GEO, the Reddit and YouTube data shows which off-site conversations shape what AI models say.

Who it's for: Ahrefs users planning off-site GEO such as community and video presence.

Price: Custom prompts from $50 per month, free on paid Ahrefs plans from Lite up. The AI Visibility Index starts at $199 per month.

Honest limitation: Lower tiers allow few custom AI prompts, so it is better for brand-level trends than detailed prompt work.

10. AI Search Optimization (our service)

What it does: Our GEO services do the work the tools above point to. After a free audit, month one fixes AI crawler access, schema, llms.txt, entity data and content gaps. After that we keep optimizing and track up to 50 prompts a month across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews.

Who it's for: Businesses that need GEO done and do not have content or dev time to spare.

Price: $299 per month, 3-month minimum, or $2,990 a year. Sites over 500 pages are quoted on a call.

Honest limitation: We do not mass-produce articles the way Gauge does, and we track fewer prompts than most platforms. If you want to run your own GEO experiments, a tool gives you more control. Check your starting point with the free AI visibility checker.

Choosing a GEO tool

Ask three questions before you buy:

  1. Who will make the changes? If the answer is nobody, a measurement-only tool will produce reports no one acts on. Pick an action-heavy tool or hire an AI SEO agency.
  2. Which engines do your buyers use? Check the engine list on the plan you would buy. Several entry plans cover three engines.
  3. Do you want content generated? Writesonic and Gauge will write for you. Budget time for editing either way.

Frequently asked questions

What are generative engine optimization tools?

GEO tools help your content get used and cited by AI models such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. They track your visibility in AI responses, and some also generate content, audit pages or serve an AI-friendly version of your site. They differ most in how much of the actual optimization they do.

Which GEO tools create content?

Writesonic is an AI writing tool with AI search tracking added, and Gauge's Growth plan includes 18 generated articles a month that it can publish to Webflow, Framer, Sanity or GitHub. Goodie lists content updates among the actions it recommends or takes.

Are GEO tools worth it for small businesses?

A cheap tracker like Rankscale Essentials can show where you stand. The value comes from acting on it. If you have no time to fix your site and content, a done-for-you service is often a better use of the same budget.

What is the difference between a GEO tool and an AI visibility tool?

Many products are sold as both. AI visibility usually means measuring mentions and citations. GEO covers the work to improve them, so a GEO tool worth the name should help with content or site changes, not only report.

Can a GEO tool fix technical issues on my site?

Some flag them. Semrush's toolkit checks for issues that block AI crawlers, Rankscale runs page audits and Goodie analyzes crawler activity. Making the fix, such as editing robots.txt or adding schema, still needs access to your site.

How long before GEO tools show results?

Tracking shows data within days. Changes in how AI models describe you depend on when they recrawl and update, which varies by engine. Measure over weeks and months, not days.
